Does the fact that we've moved on mean that Jarl couldn't tell what the crowmen we're after?

Yes

Nic brandishes a wicked smile and says that he too has business with the soothes and follows Jarl.
Waverly and Ailee take off to the Mumbles in search of the gunsmiths.
>>Jarl's conversation is handled privately.  Nic ducks out of the shop and down into the smoky alley.  (Alley here refers to hallways within the towers and spires that make up Wyrwarren).

The Mumbles are not so far from where The Elysia is docked, but getting to them requires several trips up and down stairs and across bridges.  Finally they come to the two buildings that make up the Mumbles.  At some point in the past, they too were mighty towers built of dwarven design and elven magic.  Today, though, much of the upper levels have crumbled into the Sea of Vanya's Tears.  Many of the buildings facing the sea have suffered in the centuries of storms, but few have suffered so much as these two.
Thanks to their uneven crowns and openings, many smelters and craftsmen have set up shop in the ruins.  The acrid smell of burning coal and strange gases assaults  Ailee and Waverly's noses as they cross the last bridge leading into the Mumbles.

Ailee nods to Waverly. "I could also use a trip to the gunsmith, so I will accompany you."

Jarl mumbles that his business is his own.  He makes some plan to meet the others and heads off, reluctantly, with whomever is accompanying him. If he knows any info he heads for the soothe the prime used to find them.  If not he spends some time gathering info about a soothe who might be able to help with his particular need.  Wherever he goes, he turns to his companions at the door and says, "thank you for your company and friendship please wait here."

OOC - Chris send what happens to him inside by message.  He also does a sense motive check to see of he believes what he hears and may contact multiple soothes to allay his suspicions."

Waverly looks at the rest of the group. "I'm really anxious to speak with these gunsmiths. Getting possession of a magelock pistol is constantly on my mind. It is almost as if it is calling to me. I am not whole yet. But if noone has any desire to go to the edge of the lock, I understand. Just let me know where you will be, and I will catch up to you."

Allie estimates the ship needs another hour or two of repairs.

After getting the pulley fixed, Ailee gets back to work on the propeller.  While exploring the couplings with the steam engine, she finds the source of the oscillation: one of the cogs has been removed.  The only way for it to come off would be deliberate.  Had she not found the problem, which admittedly was a minor vibration, it would have started tearing away at the rest of the gears and possibly caused the boiler to explode.

The repair is pretty simple.  She spends a little while longer checking for any more evidence of sabotage, but uncovers nothing.

The group boards The Elysia and tests out Ailee's repairs by flying out to Wyrwarren Lock.  The ship does not explode or fall apart, so Ailee's happy.  A while later, she guides the craft down into an open stretch of lock and gentles up to the murky quay.  Almost immediately, garishly dressed women come up the boarding plank, hawking herbs and concoctions and 'sorcels' - small enchanted items.  None of it seems appealing.

Along the quay are an array of shops and canopied carts, offering similar wares, along with placards for services - removing curses, bestowing curses, and the like.  Along the many stairs and ramps to the higher levels of Wyrwarren, beggars and buskers have taken up positions.  The party instinctively unlatches their weapons and moves their coin purses.

Waverly asks one of the less scary hedge witches wear she might find the soothes, and whether there are any gunsmiths in the district.  It takes a bit of gathering information to get any definitive directions.  Oracle Alley is the main haunt for the fortune tellers, though some of the more respectable ones hold court on either side of the Messari Skybridge, 5 stories up from the quay.  A couple of gunsmiths have set up shop at the end of Wyrwarren, in a couple of half-ruined buildings known, bafflingly, as the Mumbles.

Ailee puts down her wrench for a moment and thinks about Jarl's request. "Well, there's the matter of this bent prop shaft. I still haven't fixed it."

<OOC> How long to finish the repairs on the Elysia?

Jarl tells Waverly that he has business out there as well so she doesn't need to go alone.  Before they leave Jarl goes into the office.  He uses his nose to try to figure out what the birdman was after.

Loot:
7 oblong throwing discs (exotic weapon proficiency to use)
Bronze medallion bearing a half sun/half moon symbol
3 sets of talon-fitted steel blades
A short sword that has a faint blue aura
Jarl places one of the pearls in Darrin's brazier and Waverly activates the spell.  The sword is +1 and confers water breathing 2/day
Quote
A preserved eyeball on a silver chain. It is not a human eye.
It is enchanted with a preservation spell, +1 will saves versus mind control, but also some psychic residue that the brazier doesn't reveal fully.
Quote
A gold sphere, smaller than an eye, inside a black silk pouch.  The sphere feels hollow.  It is cold to the touch.
The gold sphere itself has a warding spell upon it; the thing inside is much stronger, but the spell is unable to reveal it accurately; Waverly thinks it is related to a disintegrate spell.
